The Department of Botany and Plant Pathology (BPP) at Oregon State University (OSU) is seeking applications for a faculty member and Director of the OSU Herbarium. This is an open rank, tenure-track or tenured position. Successful candidates are expected to direct and manage the OSU Herbarium; establish a robust and extramurally funded research program in any of the following areas: plant systematics, ecology, or evolution; teach at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels; work collaboratively in interdisciplinary teams; advance departmental goals around inclusive excellence; and to perform service for the institution and professional organizations.
BPP provides a vibrant and welcoming environment with excellent and newly renovated research and teaching facilities that promote collaborative relationships among faculty, researchers, and students. The OSU herbarium houses approximately 700,000 vascular plant, bryophyte, algal, fungal, and lichen specimens. The collections are worldwide in scope, with a focus on Oregon and the Pacific Northwest. BPP and the OSU Herbarium are located on the main campus of OSU in Corvallis, which is located in the Willamette Valley of western Oregon, 50 miles from the Pacific Ocean, 70 miles from the Cascade Mountains, and 80 miles from Portland. Corvallis is a bike-friendly community with excellent schools, farmers’ markets, restaurants, and pubs; easy access to outdoor recreation; and conveniently served by EUG and PDX airports.
