Help students improve their C.V.s at Botany

The student representatives of the Botanical Society of America are having a new student-based event: a CV reviewing booth, and are hoping to have a few professional members from participating societies to volunteer to be reviewers at the booth.

The idea of the CV reviewing booth is to give students an opportunity to have a 15 min one-on-one session with experienced professionals and to get comments on their CVs/resumes. The students will sign-up in advance and identify their preferred career paths (e.g. general, academia, teaching, government, industry), and the reviewers are expected to give constructive feedback on the content and format of their CV/resume.

The CV reviewing booth at Botany 2019 currently is scheduled for Monday (29th) 3:00-5:00 pm and Tuesday (30th) 3:00-5:00 pm, and we are planning to have two concurrent sessions on both afternoons, so that in total we will have 32 slots for students to sign up. We have not yet heavily advertised this event on BSA social media yet (though we soon will be), but we already have 7 students signed up! We consider this to be a very good sign and believe there is a demand for it among students attending Botany 2019.

We are looking for at least 8 volunteers to be our reviewers for the CV booth, hoping each reviewer will volunteer for 1 hour (i.e. reviewing CVs/resumes for 4 students). Please help us to spread this news to professional members of your society and call for volunteers. For any professional member willing to volunteer (and thank you!), please feel free to email me at yamin@g.harvard.edu or Chelsea at Chelsea.Pretz@colorado.edu, or sign-up directly on this google sheet:

Please let us know if you have any questions. Thank you for supporting student events at Botany conferences!

See you soon in Tucson!
