Herbarium Collections Manager-UT Knoxville

The TENN herbarium is seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented individual to join our department as the Herbarium Collections Manager. This key team member oversees the day-to-day management, preservation, and accessibility of our plant and fungal biodiversity collection, which includes specimen curation, record keeping, and monitoring specimen inflow/outflow. In addition, the Herbarium Collections Manager leads a team of undergraduate students and volunteer assistants with specimen curation and scientific outreach projects.

PhD Fellowship in Arctic Plant Systematics

We are seeking a highly motivated PhD student to conduct research in the field of plant systematics, with an Arctic geographical focus. 

The candidate will be enrolled at the University of Ottawa in the joint graduate program in biology (Ottawa Carleton Institute for Biology).

Tucker Lichenologist-Santa Barbara Botanic Garden

The Tucker Lichenologist at the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden is an endowed research scientist and curatorial position primarily responsible for performing lichenological research and curation in support of the Garden's mission. With ca. 35,600 specimens, the lichen collection at the Garden is the second largest in California and the fourth largest west of the Mississippi River. The Tucker Lichenologist will curate this important collection, serve as a regional lichen expert for western North America, and maintain an independent research program focusing on lichen biodiversity, taxonomy, systematics, and/or ecology.

Entry-Level Plant Ecologist / Plant Biologist

We have an immediate opening in our Los Gatos office for a full-time, entry-level plant ecologist/plant biologist. This person will conduct field studies, including plant community mapping, rare plant surveys, and wetland assessments and delineations, and will prepare a variety of reports/technical studies, including biological resource reports, resource agency permit applications, and natural resource management plans.

Botanical Advocacy Leadership Award 2018

The Botanical Society of America (BSA) and the American Society of Plant Taxonomists (ASPT) are pleased to invite applications for the annual Botanical Advocacy Leadership Award. This award organized by the Environmental and Public Policy Committees of BSA and ASPT aims to support local efforts that contribute to shaping public policy on issues relevant to plant sciences.

Tropical Botany Class 2018

Tropical Botany is an intensive course of study in the biology and systematics of tropical plants. The class is largely based on the extensive holdings of tropical vascular plants at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, The Kampong of the National Tropical Botanical Garden, University of Miami’s Gifford Arboretum, and the Montgomery Botanical Center.
