Hans Walter Lack Receives the 2017 ASPT Peter Raven Award

The American Society of Plant Taxonomists (ASPT) has awarded Hans Walter Lack the 2017 Peter Raven Award. Dr. Lack was based at the Botanical Garden and Botanical Museum Berlin-Dahlem and served in the role as the Director of the Botanical Museum until his retirement in 2015. There Dr. Lack worked tirelessly in research and outreach. The award is named for Peter Raven, eminent botanist and President Emeritus of the Missouri Botanical Garden, and is awarded annually by the American Society of Plant Taxonomists to a plant systematist who has made exceptional efforts at outreach to non-scientists.

Angela McDonnell Receives the 2017 ASPT George R. Cooley Award

The American Society of Plant Taxonomists (ASPT) has selected Angela McDonnell as its 2017 George R. Cooley Award recipient. Considered one of the most prestigious early-career recognitions in the plant sciences, the award is named for George R. Cooley, a successful banker who studied plants and worked in conservation in retirement.

Michael Donoghue Receives the 2017 ASPT Asa Gray Award

The American Society of Plant Taxonomists (ASPT) has selected Michael Donohue as its 2017 Asa Gray Award recipient. The prestigious award—named after arguably the most influential North American Botanist of the 19th Century—recognizes lifetime achievement in plant systematics.

Tucker Lichenologist and Associate Curator, Clifton Smith Herbarium, Santa Barbara Botanic Garden

The Tucker Lichenologist and Associate Curator of the Clifton Smith Herbarium is an endowed research scientist and curatorial position primarily responsible for performing lichenological research and curation in support of the Garden's mission, with additional curatorial duties in the non-lichen portion of the Clifton Smith Herbarium. With ca. 35,600 specimens, the lichen collection at the Garden is the second largest in California and the fourth largest west of the Mississippi River. The Tucker Lichenologist will curate this important collection,

ASPT presidents' letter addresses elimination of NSF DDIG

On June 9th,  ASPT presidents present and past cosigned a letter addressing NSF's June 6 announcement of the elimination of the NSF doctoral dissertation improvement grants program in the Division of Environmental Biology (DEB) and the Division of Integrative Organismal Systems (IOS).
