The Department of Biology, University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez (UPRM, www.biology.uprm.edu) invites applications for a Tenure-track Position as Assistant Professor in Plant Ecology, beginning July 2014 or until position is filled. A Ph.D. degree is required, post-doctoral experience is preferred. Other preferred qualifications include a strong background in general botany, tropical terrestrial ecosystems and invasive species. Candidates must demonstrate teaching skills for developing undergraduate and graduate courses in botany and ecology including, but not limited to, Plant Organismal Biology, Elementary Botany and Population Ecology, as well as the ability to design and develop courses in their area of specialty.
The successful candidate will be expected to develop an active, externally funded research program with undergraduate and graduate students, and collaborate with other faculty. External funds, when obtained, will allow eligibility for release time during the academic year. Candidates with good communication skills in both English and Spanish will be preferred.
UPRM is a Land-Grant, Sea-Grant, and Space-Grant institution and has full access to biological stations and formal collaboration agreements with renowned community organizations dedicated to forest management and conservation.
